On May 7, 1920, the Group of Seven opened their first exhibition at the Art Gallery of Toronto. To quote the first exhibition catalogue:

The seven artists whose pictures are here exhibited […] are all imbued with the idea that an Art must grow and flower in the land before the country will be a real home for its people.

To commemorate the 100th anniversary of this day, on May 7, 2020, Canada Post will issue a new set of seven stamps featuring works by the Group’s seven founding members: Franklin Carmichael, Lawren S. Harris, A.Y. Jackson, Frank H. Johnston, Arthur Lismer, J.E.H. MacDonald and F.H. Varley.

In this special presentation, Jim Phillips, Director, Stamp Services at Canada Post, will be joined by Diana Freundl, Interim Chief Curator/Associate Director, and Grant Arnold, Audain Curator of British Columbia Art at the Vancouver Art Gallery, to unveil the final stamp in the set and discuss the artwork selected from the Gallery’s permanent collection.
