Let’s make Art At Home!

Experience the power of storytelling through art, and discover a new activity that you can try with your family at home!

October is Canadian Islamic History Month in recognition of the significant contributions the Muslim community has made to Canadian society. In this edition of Art At Home Live, join local artist Doaa Jamal and Family Programs Coordinator Christina Jones to celebrate and share new perspectives on artworks currently on view!

Presented in collaboration with SFU’s Centre for Comparative Muslim Studies, this interactive webinar will encourage participants to look closely at the many ways that artists express their histories and experience and create new understandings of Muslim perspectives, societies and cultures.

Get involved! Submit your own questions, knowledge and ideas as a family during the Zoom presentation using the Chat function. Create along with us as we think about what it means to learn about each other’s cultural heritage.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Doaa Jamal is a freelance graphic designer and photographer. Her professional expertise lies in creating dynamic visuals for individuals and organizations eager to understand their identity through the power of colour, shape, and symbolism. And through the scope of her lens, she captures small moments in time to create big expressions of personality. Each of her portraits is a welcome window for endless stories and emotion.

Between projects, Doaa experiments with Arabic calligraphy and type; mixed media fabrication; and travel photography, all from her point of practice in Vancouver, BC.

Doaa never hikes, loves tulips and has too many siblings.
