Lectures and Talks

Always Arriving: Connecting with the Artworks of Jin-me Yoon

Sun Feb 5, 2023 | 2 PM

Room 4East

This talk will also be presented for free on Zoom and streamed live to the Gallery’s Facebook page.

Join for an informative lecture with Susette Min, Associate Professor at UC Davis, in which she will discuss Korean-born Vancouver artist Jin-me Yoon’s artistic practice and address the myriad ways in which Jin-me Yoon’s artworks address and unsettle the boundaries of Asian diasporic art.

Currently on view, Yoon’s solo exhibition About Time explores the themes of identity, memory, place and displacement through photography, video and installation.  Oscillating past, present and future, About Time presents Yoon’s key works of the last decade, addressing the artist’s concerns on the impact of entangled history of colonialism, imperialism and militarism on our interconnectedness to the world. Yoon’s work is distinguished by a poetic, cinematic aesthetic–one that is deeply contemplative and undergirded by an examination of our position in the world as it is reflected in and shaped by ideas of history and memory, land and ocean.
